Valentine’s Day 2014
Had a beautiful Valentine’s Day with my sweetheart! To begin with, we exchanged gifts when Jess got home from work. He brought me a gorgeous bouquet of flowers, mixed with purple daisies, red roses and other assortments. I personally love a variety of flowers, so always enjoy the unique bouquets he finds. He also gave me a DVD set of British movies I wanted and a bad of Ghirardelli Dark & Raspberry Squares, one of my favorite chocolates!
I got Jess a DVD and book he wanted, made him a special batch of Valentine cookies with cherry and pink lemonade frosting. I also made him a mixed CD to play in the car and a huge box of Whoppers, one of his favorite candies.
We had originally talked about seeing a show of some kind, but nothing was playing that piqued our interest. So instead, Jess booked reservations at one of our favorite steak houses. We enjoyed a divine 3 course meal in a cozy, half-circle booth.
Afterward we took a drive up Mt. Helix, a high spot with one of the best view in San Diego. It was such a warm, clear night that we didn’t even need jackets. There were a few other couples up there as well, one was even having a little picnic. Couldn’t imagine a better night for it too…bright city lights under a full moon. We just sat there for a while admiring the city.
It wasn’t a long night, since Jess had to be up early the next day, but it was simple and romantic. The last couple years we had bigger events, which I adored, but I appreciate these simple celebrations too. I know Valentine’s Day is a point of contention for people who are single, but the world needs more days to celebrate love, not less. Even if you simply use it as a day to do something special for a friend or family member, just to remind them how special they are. I realize it’s a Hallmark holiday, but we choose to make the most of it…as if we needed an excuse to have a date night!
P.S. Minnie says Happy Valentine’s Day too!
