The Weekend That Was
This weekend was one of mixed emotions. My husband has a new job and is in some fierce training. He will be working a new shift starting next week, so this is our last Saturday and Sunday off together for quite some time. In fact, there is no telling what his schedule will be after the next 6-8 weeks and beyond. It’s very much up in the air, so I’m trying to just roll with it and be supportive.
How does this affect me, you might ask? Well, having Tuesdays and Wednesdays off is all very well, but I had to give up being in the worship ministry at church for the season. We won’t be able to attend Sunday services until I’m not sure when, so I had to step down until we know for sure what is going on. Of course this also affects our church going routine. We love our church dearly, and were just discussing covenant membership, but since there are no weekend evening services we will have to go somewhere else and keep up with the messages online.
All that aside, we had a wonderful time together! On Friday night Jess took me out to one of our favorite restaurants for a romantic dinner. Afterwards we took a drive to the coast and hung out at one of our favorite parking spots (seen in the photo). We may be long past our dating days, but we still “go steady”. I absolutely love it here too, because you can park your car so close to the water, roll down the window and feel the breeze and hear the waves crashing.
On Saturday we played tourist guide to my brother’s buddy who just moved out here. Not that I ever need an excuse to get out and see this beautiful city. We took them to Mt. Soledad, which is a 360 degree, breathtaking panoramic view of San Diego, then over to the 372ft cliffs of Torrey Pines where we watched para-gliders soaring along the coast, then over to La Jolla Cove to see the harbor seals and lastly we drove around downtown San Diego to show off the city a bit. It’s always fun to see these places, but I was quite exhausted by the time we got home.
Sunday we got up early and went to church. I was feeling pretty sad about that, but it was a nice service and we enjoyed sitting with my two brothers and SIL. Afterward we went home and had a bit of lunch and chilled out. Unlike most of America, we did not watch the Super Bowl, because neither of us care for football in the least. In fact, I’ve never understood the appeal of watching sports. Playing is at least an activity, though I do confess I enjoy going to a baseball game in the summer.
