Songs I Heard This Week (Christmas)
This week I’m sharing a few of my favorite dreampop / electronic-flavored Christmas songs. These are ones I put on every year when I just want to chill, but still in the mood for that holiday vibe. But before we begin, I thought I’d share my own downtempo version of Deck The Halls. It is currently featured as a free download on BANDCAMP, so be sure to grab it while you can!
…now onto my other recommendations
A true classic. The dreamy instrumentation and Liz Fraser’s lush harmonies make for one of the best versions of this holiday favorite. Their version of Frosty the Snowman is almost equally sweet, making me wish they had released a full album of Christmas recordings such as these.
This has to be one of the most non-traditional versions of the Little Drummer Boy, but it doesn’t make it any less delicious! The drum and bass production mixed with Suzanne Perry’s ethereal vocals go together like tinsel and lights!
I love the imagery this song conjures up of ice skating hand in hand with the one you love with cold noses and warm hearts. I can just picture the natural surrounding of a frozen river and people bundled in knit mittens and long stocking caps. Divine!
Have you ever had an experience that put you in a festive mood? Perhaps something took place that brought on a nostalgic feeling, there was a familiar smell or just a crispness in the air. Whatever it was, it was just like Christmas.
Definitely one of my favorite Christmas songs of all-time. Venus Hum does justice to this happy holiday song and brings their own flavor to their whimsical rendition.
This is a frosty little cover of Vince Guaraldi’s classic Christmas song featured in A Charlie Brown Christmas. It’s my favorite Christmas song of all-time, so I can certainly appreciate this sweet tribute by a lovely band.
Not all Christmases are a joyous occasion for everyone. Some people are lonely or dearly miss a loved one, as is noted here in Saint Etienne’s beautiful Christmas Prayer.
This version has Enya written all over it, as it is done in her signature style. It’s also a perfect way to wish everyone a Merry Christmas! May you be blessed as you celebrate with family and friends in the coming days.
