Songs I Heard This Week (1/13/17)
The Catherine Wheel album, “Ferment”, is a shoegazer classic. It still holds up all these years later. Been going back to this one recently and enjoy it as much as when I first heard it. This might be my favorite track, but “Black Metallic” is also excellent and the most well known track from the album. I even highly recommend the cover by Hammock.
Couldn’t find the studio version of this song, but I thought this recording session video was pretty nice too. A little more stripped down, but highlights their raw talent a bit more. Love the blend of these two perfect voices.
A very sweet, romantic song by Rachel Lloyd. Love her vocals and the understated musical arrangement. It was “calling” to me this week as I was cooking. Doesn’t romance usually start in the kitchen?
Lindsey, Lindsey, Lindsey…he never fails to give me chills! However, this video is just puzzling, but such was the 80s. Still, this definitely always felt like it could have been a Fleetwood Mac single, but he decided to keep it for himself.
Not sure if this sentiment is a reflection of the singer’s personal desire or if it’s a commentary on the music industry in general, but as humans it’s natural to crave affirmation. I think creative types have a worse time of it, even though it proves to be quite hollow when even the most famous people get all the adoration they ever dreamed of. Perhaps there is something more to life.
