Songs I Heard: Sailorsongs Pt. 3
Welcome to Part 3 of Sailorsongs, as we count down the weeks in the final month of Summer! I have decided to send her off in the best way I know how…through song. I have a fascination with the sea and a with sailing in particular. I have written songs about it, poems, and even a book. I consider it the very embodiment of mystery, adventure, and romance. I also love building themed playlists to fit various moods and was recently inspired to create one called, Sailorsongs. To help relish these last weeks of the season, I will be posting a four-part series featuring some of my favorite songs that speak to the heart of every seafaring adventurer. So, get ready to set sail… ⛵
On board, I’m the captain
So climb aboard
We’ll search for tomorrow
On every shore
And I’ll try, oh Lord, I’ll try
To carry on
As the son of a son of a sailor
I went out on the sea for adventure
Expanding the view of the captain and crew
Like a man just released from indenture
Oh, end this day, show me the ocean.
When shall I see the sea?
May this day set me in emotion,
I ought to be on my way.
We were there,
We were sailing on the Terra Nova.
Sailing for the setting sun,
Sailing for the new horizon.
May this day show me an ocean,
I ought to be on my way.
Well, I was born in the sign of water
And it’s there that I feel my best
The albatross and the whales, they are my brothers
It’s kind of a special feeling
When you’re out on the sea alone
Staring at the full moon like a lover
Cherub, I lost a ship in the Baltic Sea
I’m on an iceberg running free
Sitting, filing this berg to the shape of a ship
Sailing my way back to your lips
One passing ship gave word that
You have moved out of your old flat
You love the Vicar more than words can say
Tell him to pray that I won’t melt away
And I’ll see your face again
My own personal inclusion in this list is To The Sea, from the album, Reflections.
Say farewell, forever dwell on love that’s faded away
The growing pain drives me insane, there’s nothing left to say
I cannot imagine life without you next to me
Instead I’ll have to move onward to the sea
Drowning away in my sorrows then falling astray
Drowning away in the sea, I’m drifting away
