Reflections: My Silent Mystery
It’s the four year anniversary since Tigerforest released the album, The Tides of Day & Night, which featured my collaboration track, “My Silent Mystery”. In honor of that, I thought I would write a bit about the lyrics of the song and how it came about. When I was approached by Tigerforest to work on the song I was given the instrumental and a title with a general theme consisting of “all the little wonders and mysteries people see in their everyday life”. After kicking around some ideas, the lyrics flowed from my own natural curiosity about humanity in particular.
It’s really about people watching. How often we go about our daily lives as many faceless people pass us along the way, but often I will stop and wonder who these people are. Where are they from and where are they going? What are their hopes and dreams? What is daily life like for them and their loved ones? I find it easy to take people’s humanity for granted when you don’t know them personally, yet they are equally invested in their own lives as much as we are in ours. This also causes me to consider that I too am just another face in a crowd to them, my own life hidden from view. Sure, they may see the smile on the outside, and we may even exchange a polite nod, but how many people really take the time to know who we truly are? Sometimes all it takes is a simple greeting to break the silence and before you know it, those mysteries begin to unravel and we are strangers no more! Other times it’s just amusing to speculate.
My Silent Mystery
Written by Jakki JeleneWhen I open up the door
I never know what is in store
As I step into the light
People pass before my eyesLiving lives that we can’t see
It’s a silent mystery
I wonder…Where they’re from and where they go
Better than a TV show
Every thought and every deed
I can’t help but be intriguedI have secrets of my own
Thoughts I hide that no one knows
As they pass me they can’t see
It’s my silent mystery
I wonder…Marching blindly, so it seems
Everyone has hopes and dreams
Some succeed, some fade away
Lives can change within a dayI have secrets of my own
Dreams I hide that no one knows
As they pass me they can’t see
It’s my silent mystery
I wonder…
