Reflections: Autumn
It’s the first day of fall, so as I usually do, I am making my song “Autumn” available as a free mp3 (click the link to download). I also thought it would be a good opportunity to share more about what inspired me to write it and the meaning behind the lyrics. It comes from the album, “Seasons”, which is “an emotional and spiritual exploration of the four seasons”. The song features piano, cello and clarinet to capture the overall mood of fall, but speaks about far more than just the season itself.
I wrote it at a time when I was feeling depressed by the worsening state of the world. Even though these things were predicted thousands of years ago I found myself becoming fearful, like a child anticipating the night. I knew it was important to remind myself that like all seasons, everything must come to pass in its time and that ultimately God is in control. That as people of faith we have hope that even as winter approaches, “spring is around the bend”. It became almost like a lullaby, meant to bring peace and calm in the face of disturbing news stories that spell impending doom. For tomorrow and ever after He brings another day. Amen! 🍁
AUTUMN
Written by Jakki JeleneBaby lay your head down, as I sing this lullaby
The night is drawing nearer, as the leaves fall to the ground
Hear the wind that whispers, as it’s blowing through the trees
The air is getting colder, just as you begin to dreamSleep in peace and do not be afraid
For tomorrow & everafter brings another dayFeel that the Winter, is getting close at hand
The days may seem darker, but Spring is around the bend
Despite the things they tell you, hear what your mama says
Daddy will keep you safe from, the terrors that lie aheadSleep in peace and do not be afraid
For tomorrow & everafter brings another day
Sleep in peace, God hears you when you pray
And tomorrow & everafter He brings another day
