La Vie En Rose
Happy Valentine’s Day! 🌹 I know it’s a Hallmark holiday, but for an old romantic like me, I can’t resist any opportunity to celebrate L’Amour. And the best way I know how is via the universal language — music! So here is my Valentine to you…a little recording of one of the most romantic standards of all-time, ‘La Vie En Rose’. Why this song, you ask? Because its lyrics are sweet and simple, yet full of passion (plus I like playing it on ukulele). In English, its literal meaning is “Life in Pink”, but the song’s title can also be translated as “Life in happy hues”, “Life seen through happy lenses” or “Life in rosy hues.” All of which speak to the beautiful outlook on life that love inspires like little else can. Love is often the catalyst for opening our eyes to the world around us and gives us the ability to see things as they should be; vivid, rich and profound. And while my version may lack the sophisticated allure of Edith Piaf’s French crooning or the hot trumpet solo in Louis Armstrong’s well-known cover, I hope you will enjoy it for the sweet simplicity it offers, much like the song itself. May your day likewise be full of ‘happy hues’! 💗
La Vie En Rose
Hold me close and hold me fast
The magic spell you cast
This is La Vie En Rose
When you kiss me heaven sighs
And though I close my eyes
I see La Vie En Rose
When you press me to your heart
I’m in a world apart
A world where roses bloom
And when you speak angels sing from above
Everyday words seem to turn into love songs
So give your heart and soul to me
And life will always be
La Vie En Rose
