God Had Other Plans!
This is my niece Olive. You may have heard me mention her a time or two. She was born with Trisomy 18 and will be turning 3 in about 6 months. The doctors told my brother and his wife to expect a stillborn baby or that she would likely die the day she was born. They were encouraged to abort to save themselves the pain of going through that experience. BUT GOD HAD OTHER PLANS!
After she was born some of the medical staff simply told them she was “incompatible with life”, to “make her comfortable” and did not encourage treatment for any medical needs she might have. Basically, they told them to prepare for the inevitable. BUT GOD HAD OTHER PLANS!
Even as she daily defied the odds, they were told she had a hole in her heart that would certainly require surgery, which would take a toll on her fragile life. There was no possible way it was going to close on its own. BUT GOD HAD OTHER PLANS!
The hole did close on its own, but they were told even if she continued to live that she would never have an outward show of emotion–no laughing, no smiling. No awareness of her surroundings or people. BUT GOD HAD OTHER PLANS!
Has it always been easy? Of course not. She still struggles with a variety of health issues, but she continues to defy the odds time and again and has proven that she is compatible with life! She is precious and her life was worth fighting for! Doctors don’t know everything. Political activists don’t know everything. That scared mother doesn’t know everything. While we may do our best to predict the outcome of a situation, we must first bow our knee to what God wants to do. And wake up call–it’s usually quite different than what we imagined. I hope Olive’s story gives hope to someone who has been told similar dire news. And while we don’t know every outcome, we can trust that God will walk with us through our trials if we trust Him and He can redeem any situation. Satan seeks to steal, kill and destroy, BUT GOD HAS OTHER PLANS!!!
