Back To Work
This past year has been incredibly hectic to say the least. What with our third move, husband starting a new job, loads of family visiting or staying with us and medical issues to deal with, all that would have been enough to cause me to put music on hold. Add to that the fact that my DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) has been quickly becoming outdated and increasingly buggy, it was easy to take a break for a while. Admittedly I haven’t been working with the most cutting edge software over the years, but it was what I learned on and it served me well until I decided to update Windows. As one might imagine, the thought of starting over with an entirely new interface was overwhelming, not to mention the discouragement of realizing I may possibly lose a great deal of my work in progress.
Well, thankfully I managed to fix my former software enough to salvage my work, but that was only half the battle. The software has become so erratic that I could no longer trust it would hold up to completion, so I concluded it would not be wise to continue working within it. That meant starting the hunt for a new DAW, which was sure to be a challenge. Not only would I have to find an interface I could adjust to quickly, but it would also have to be compatible with all my plug-ins. I figured I was in for a long process of starting trials, learning programs and eliminating them until I was satisfied. Well, thankfully, the answer came rather quickly and I couldn’t be more pleased!
Not only have I adapted quickly to the new software, it runs every single one of my plug-ins. I have spent the better part of the last week transferring all my songs manually. It’s been a large task, but not as difficult as I imagined it would be. In fact, it turned out to be a great way to learn the new software, as I tried to emulate what I had already accomplished. I’ve also been going through a ton of tutorial videos and little by little I am really getting the hang of it. So much so that I wonder why I hadn’t done this sooner. It has rejuvenated my passion for making music and I’m well on my way to getting the tracks ready for my next album, ‘Bewildered’.
In the meantime I have still been writing music. In fact, I wrote a song recently near and dear to my heart that I plan to lay out very soon. I will be sure to share the back story when the time comes, but for now I’m keeping it under wraps. I plan to add it to album, but as I did for Luminous, I’d like to send some finished recordings out for a test run before the album is complete. Just get a feel for the reaction and hopefully get people familiar with the work.
All in all I just feel inspired and energized, which is a great place to be after a challenging year. It gives me hope that good things are yet to come! I feel it from my husband too, who is also starting to focus more on his writing projects, which I’m also very excited about, in fact I believe this next season will be all about letting the creativity flow. I am eager with anticipation at what may come of it! In the meantime, here is an audio sample with a few clips of what I’ve been working on so far (no vocals yet). Enjoy…there’s more to come!
