…an emotional and spiritual exploration of the four seasons
“Seasons” is an emotional and spiritual exploration of the four seasons, with each track featuring a different instrument to capture the overall ambiance associated with that particular time of year.
The concept of a seasons album came to me a few years ago as I began relating my circumstances to each of the four seasons and how fleeting they are. I was reminded how each truly represents different stages in life and how they continue to pass with such speed. This was somewhat encouraging to me at the time, as I was going through a particular rough patch which I likened to a harsh winter. I knew for certain that my spring was just around the corner! But I was also reminded that even the best of times quickly fade as well and that we must always prepare emotionally and spiritually for the battles ahead.
As I began work on the album I started to head in my usual direction of working through electronic beats and instruments. I eventually came to the conclusion that, just like the seasons themselves, I wanted to keep the music as organic sounding as possible, though still utilizing electronic means. This meant I had to suddenly change course and begin anew, but I believe this new direction played a large part in inspiring me to write the remaining songs. Most notably the title track, “Seasons”. This song would not only come to set the stage for the album, but an alternate version would close it as well.
I knew for certain that piano would play a major part on the album. That would require finding just the right person who would not only understand my vision, but would also have the capability of translating it into music. I approached my Pastor and worship leader, Daniel Gardner, who was already well known for several popular praise and worship songs that were being sung in churches around the country. His rich, emotional piano compositions provided the perfect backdrop to complete the audio landscape already painted in my mind. I knew with his contribution I would finally have the tools necessary to see the project through.
To tie the album completely together I incorporated an acoustic guitar solo by my immensely talented brother, Gregory Platte, on the track “Summer”. My niece, Autumn Ford, who is an accomplished young artist, also completed the water color and colored pencil drawing of a tree displaying the transitions of the four seasons. This cover art seemed to compliment the raw, organic theme perfectly. These brilliant contributions from such intimate connections definitely enhanced the experience and truly made the project a labor of love.
